SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta Joins the IDLE Module Program
SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta is participating in the English learning project using the IDLE Module Program. This project, initiated by Prof. Ju Seong Lee from The Education University of Hong Kong in collaboration with Dr. Nur Arifah Drajati from Sebelas Maret University Surakarta, aims to improve students’ enthusiasm and motivation in learning English through fascinating and various digital activities.
The IDLE Module Program offers a variety of learning opportunities. Students were assigned tasks that required them to engage with English outside the classroom, such as playing interactive games, watching English movies, reading articles, or participating in online discussions. This approach helped them apply their learning in real-life situations. By combining these popular media into the learning process, the program tries to make English language learning more enjoyable and appropriate to students’ interests.
First the teacher shared an interactive quiz namely Kahoot. When playing the quiz, the students showed their high-level interest. The next activity was watching the video of songs. They shared their favourite songs and discussed the stories with their classmates. Besides, they also submitted their answers and the link of the YouTube they watched in a Padlet. Prof. Ju Seong Lee and Dr. Nur Arifah Drajati also conducted interviews with several students to get the students’ experiences and opinion about the program and its impact on their English language skills.
Finally, it can be concluded that the implementation of IDLE at SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta has successfully improved the English language learning experience for students and yielded positive outcomes such as enhanced language skills, as evidenced by improved performance in assessments.
